Proofreading & Copyediting

What types of content do you review?

We’ll review all types of content as long as it does not incite or seek to invite negativity on others. Our approach is to:

1. Find all the errors (including syntax, spelling, punctuation, grammar);

2. Ensure there is consistency throughout the document (including in structure and tone);

3. Check the messaging and intent are clear.

What is the timeframe for your proofreading and copyediting service?

Unless otherwise agreed, Proof My Work endeavours to complete its services within four business days for work requests under 10,000 (ten thousand) words. This timeframe does not include any new work that is requested or added to the original written content. The timeframe of four business days starts when we confirm the content to be reviewed has been received in full, and the document can be retrieved or opened without issue.

What if I need an urgent review of my content (i.e. less than 4 business days)?

We generally work on a first in first served basis so that we can give every customer the same service. If there is an urgency to your request then on a case-by-case basis we will try to accommodate your needs as much as possible.

How do you charge for the service and why do you charge it this way?

We charge $11.00 (including any taxes) for copyediting and proofreading every 1000 (one thousand) words. We believe that, no matter your background and level of English proficiency, we’re going to charge you the same way, based on your actual black-and-white words. It removes the potential uncertainty that can come with having to ask for a quote. This system also rewards conciseness - in this regard - less is more.

However, please note, if we need to add words to make the content readable and this ends up accounting for at least 20% of the content, Proof My Work reserves the right to charge for those extra words. For example, if we received content that was 800 words long, but needed to add 200 words in order to make that content readable, we may charge for 1000 words (800 + 200).

Do you fact check our content?

Yes, we can. For the portion of your content that requires it, we will charge $22 per 1000 words to reflect the additional work in research and review, making sure that your content reflects publicly available current and general knowledge. Source references will also be provided to you. Please note that the research and review will be limited to general knowledge sources that are publicly available online; as we do not claim to own specific subscriptions or be technical experts on the subject at hand.

If you've created content using AI (such as chat GPT) but then need it altered to reflect your own communication style, we can do this at the rate of $22 per 1000 words. We charge at this rate because it would not be a standard copyedit and proofreading task; it would require additional work in research and review to edit what AI has done, in order to make the content look and feel like how you or your business would actually sound.

How do we pay for the service?

Unless otherwise agreed, Proof My Work will invoice customers upon completion of every 5000 (five thousand) words of reviewed content. Invoices will be sent and payable via secure electronic bank transfer or PayPal. Please note, any additional 5000 words (or up to) of reviewed content will not be released until previous invoices have been paid.

Is there any content you do not review?

Proof My Content reserves the right to refuse to offer its services at any point in time if it becomes apparent in our opinion that the content contains wording that may be considered illegal, dangerous, unethical, or immoral. This can include our right to decline offering our services if we form the view that the document may contain plagiarised content, advocates racism or discrimination, or is deemed hateful, threatening, abusive, or insulting.
